Completely skippable album. Jorge is obviously rushing to get these albums out while the hype is there and the rush job shows. The whole album is phoning the lyrics in to the point where it’s just an audio book with guitar. You can get away with one boring forgettable song in a musical but not five in a row. All five songs bleed together into a mush of false intensity. Nothing stands out enough to remain memorable.
The point of these concept albums was to make something old new and interesting. Instead it’s getting tired trying to keep up with itself. We know the story of the Odyssey. We don’t need a scene by scene hand holding. The first album was a masterpiece because it gave us the emotion, rhythm and energy that put us into the scenes. It showed a new perspective that sparked the imagination. That spark has fizzled. With each new album that focus and vision has gotten lost to the detriment of the music.
If a sing a long audio book is going to be where we’re going it’s unlikely I’ll continue this Odysseus’s journey to completion. I don’t want to listen to someone rewrite the Odyssey into something I’ve already heard. Especially at $5 a chapter.
